Tinyfish / DeeExpus @ The Peel.
F#@king Awesome.
It is perhaps not politically correct to be glad that someone broke their arm, but if it had not been for Jem Godfrey breaking his arm in a freak (read alcohol was involved) soft-ball accident, I would not have experienced the best gig I have been to in a long long time.
An Esoteric Evening with Two ‘J’s’ and an ‘A’ with Tinyfish supporting turned into Tinyfish supported by DeeExpus. The original gig is now rescheduled for November 7th. I wish Jem a speedy recovery.
I missed DeeExpus at the Cambridge Rock Festival, and as they started to play I started regretting this fact. DeeExpus are a wonderful addition to the progressive rock scene. They only formed last year but have already managed to release two cds and a live dvd. For this gig however they were a man down, but luckily they had managed to recruit a replacement keyboard-player.
The Peel liked what DeeExpus was dishing out, and I am sure we will be seeing these Northern lads back soon. Meanwhile you can find more information about their live dates at their website.
With the band lead guitarist, Jim Sanders, having moved to Sweden you would expect Tinyfish to cut down on their live gigs, but thanks to cheap airlines Jim is able to make it from his new home is Sweden to the Peel in around 5 hours, half the time it took DeeExpus to drive back north after the gig.
Tinyfish has always been a great live band but this gig was really something. From the opening bars of “The sarcasm never” stops to the unexpected encore of “Cinnamon” Tinyfish was really on fire. I have said it before and I will say it again, what sets this band apart from others are there live performances.
The audience greatest cheer of the night was when Robert Ramsay entered the stage during “Fly Like a Bird” as Captain Oblivion, but I think the night was best summed up by the audience member who after a particular excellent rendition of “Motorville” shouted “F#@king Awesome”.

Tinyfish is currently playing a gig a month until Christmas, for details check the bands website.

A great blog to go with a great gig. The atmosphere that evening was fantastic, and naked C3PO’s keyboard playing was bloody fantastic, much better than my bands keyboard player.
Are you appearing at “An Esoteric Evening With” next month? If so, we hope to see you there! Till then, Prog On!
Thanks for your comment. Yes, I will be at the Peel next month to experience the Godfrey family reunion. Feel free to introduce yourself, I will be the 6’3 ginger Norwegian holding a camera.
Brilliant,
I’m the progger who’ll be wearing one of the two Vinyl Dial T shirts ever made, look out for this picture on a t shirt:
