6 Qs for Mark Westworth of Darwin's Radio
Another weekend looms before us and it is time for another visit to London's premier prog rock establishment, the Peel. This Saturday Darwin's Radio supported by Jump will be on stage in Norbiton, so who better to answer my 6 Qs this time than Mark Westworth of Darwin's Radio.
Who are your musical influences?
No, although I play air guitar like Pete Townshend sometimes. Seriously...there are too many to mention, they're listed on our website :)
What has Darwin's Radio been up to lately?
As a band, not a lot! Too many other commitments meant that the band was on hiatus for a while. The songs on "Template For A Generation" were written over 2 years ago and all the parts were recorded independently (using tempo maps) so we only all got together at the final mix stage in June. It was a huge relief to hear that all the parts lined up correctly! We're currently planning some gigs for spring 2010.
What's your favorite song to perform live? Personally it has to be "The Illusion Is Freedom". In the early days we used to play "Once Around The World" by It Bites which was great fun as well as an immense challenge :)
How has your music evolved since you first began playing music together?
I recall the early writing sessions which used to occur in a tiny bedroom at Dec's place, and the ideas started flowing immediately. We did attempt to write some shorter songs but we eventually decided to ignore any time restraints :) I think we've learned to adapt to each other's styles and we try to make sure there is some input from everyone in the songs even though myself and Dec are the songwriters.
If you could play a concert with a band of your choice, who would it be?
Erm, Take That! No seriously I'm really envious of Lee Pomeroy, the current bass player in It Bites, who also tours in the Take That band. I'd love to be a part of such amazing stage shows.
What's your favorite board game?
Dirty scrabble.
Darwin's Radio's new album "Template For A Generation" is now available through their website. They will be performing live this weekend at the Peel.
