Darwin’s Radio / Jump @ the Peel
Back to the Peel for another night of Prog … First up was Jump with John Dexter Jones, perhaps England’s best front man.
The American science fiction author M. Keaton once told me that the reason he does not drive a car is that he gets the inspiration for most of his characters by riding the bus. Jump are the same.

John Dexter Jones does not sing songs, he tells stories … not about love and dragons, but about the mad old lady on the bus from Digby to Oxford. Or the story about his great uncle who was killed by a sniper during the great war.
Backed up by a band of excellent musicians John Dexter Jones made this night unforgettable.
As keyboard player Mark Westworth told us in 6Qs, Darwin’s Radio has been on a on hiatus for a while, but with a new album under their belt they were clearly hungry to gig.
This was the first time I have seen Darwin’s radio and to be honest I am not quite sure what to make of the performance. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed myself but as the band was playing I was reminded of Dec’s attempt at reverse parking his car earlier in the evening. Not quite there yet.
This is probably due to the fact that both Dec and Mark have been busy playing with Frost and IQ respectively. We had a taste of what Darwin’s radio could be like if they have had a bit more time in the rehearsal room, when they did a great cover of Rush’s Spirit of the Radio.
