Penguicon

According to wikipedia “Penguicon is a convention in the United States that deliberately brings together the often-overlapping communities of science fiction fandom and Linux User Groups.”

And for the last 4 years I have attended this geek-fest. Normally I would consider myself a geek but in the company of the thousand or so people attending this year’s convention in Troy, Michigan, I am but a mere muggle. There are people here you can solve any problem using a cat-5 cable and some ingenuity. Others will gladly recite you the collective works of Heinlein in Klingon.

Oh and there are like 200 plus panels to attend on topics like “A Musical Guide to the Future of Linux” or “Real-life Superheroes: Legal and Philosophical Issues” Usually you will find at least 3 different ones you want to go to at the same time. For the first couple of years I tried to catch as many panels as possible, but last time I realised that it is not about the panels, it is all about the people. I have made many friends at Penguicon and as another one is about to kick off, I am looking forwards to hanging out with my geeky friends.
