6qs for John Dexter Jones of Jump

I have mentioned this before, John Dexter Jones is one of UK’s best frontmen. The man is a wordsmith extraordinaire and a teller of marvelous stories. JDJ points out that these responses are not necessarily those of the whole band but fuck it…you didn’t ask them!!
Who are your musical influences?
(mine…not the band’s!)Jimmy MacGregor and Robin Hall, Don Williams, Baccara, Ray Stevens, Kristofferson, The Sweet, Gary Glitter, Mud, Abba, Zeppelin, Motorhead, Steeleye Span, ACDC, Wings, Talking Heads, Johnny Cash(when it wasn’t cool) Suzy Boggus, Martina Mc Bride, Joni Mitchell, Rush, Rainbow, Sabbath, Tom Jones, Penrhyn Male Voice Choir, Pete Morton, Show of Hands, Marillion, Fish, Robert Plant, The Firm, Capercaillie, Black Uhuru, U2, Stones, Elvis, Fay Ray, The Alarm, Meic Stevens, Ofra Haza…(many more but you’re bored already)
What has Jump been up to lately?
JUMP has been writing, recording and gigging(as ever) and enjoying holidays from the sales of our latest album The Beachcomber.(well…Pwllheli for me…)oh and we went to the pub at Xmas.
What’s your favorite song to perform live?
That’s so unfair…at the moment it might be Down Three Times but overall in the last few years?…Free at Last stands up well….and is always a blast.
How has your music evolved since you first began playing music together?
I honestly have no idea if it has. The punter is the best judge of that. We have got a fiddle and sax on the latest cd tho….!
If you could play a concert with a band of your choice, who would it be?
FISH. (we’ve had the privilege and I’d do it all again…mentions to Tinyfish, John Young, Panic Room and The Dreaming Tree)
What’s your favorite board game?
Chess.
Jump’s new album the Beachcomber is one of my top 5 albums of 2010 and is available here. I also highly recommend the Something of the night album.
