Summer’s End 2009 Day Two Part One

Day 1 of Summer's End ended with yours truly seeing more of Glouchester than I had intended to. My sat nav was refusing to locate my hotel and I ended up having to find the M5 and then following my printed directions from there. Something which added an extra hour to my already late night. It did not help that the people in the next room having just retired from the bar decided to continue the partying for an additional hour.

Summer's End 2009 Day One

I have to confess that I did not know what to expect from Summer's End. I am fairly new to the whole prog scene, you see. As a child of the 70s I missed out on the first wave of progressive bands like King Crimson, Yes and Genesis. It was only a couple of years ago when a colleague, who happened to play in a prog band, peeked my interest in exploring this genre of music. His band, Tinyfish, was due to play at Summer's End 2007, and he played me a couple of tracks of their Summer's End promotional cd. Since then I have been hooked. Thanks Rob.

Darwin's Radio / Jump @ the Peel

Back to the Peel for another night of Prog ... First up was Jump with John Dexter Jones, perhaps England's best front man.

Touch the Sky

I got a fever, and the only prescription ... is more prog rock!! I am starting to become a regular at The Peel, and the House of Progression is to blame. With acts like DeeExpus, Tinyfish, Panic Room, Jump and Darwin's Radio, and that is just the gigs this month, HoP knows how to keep prog rock fans entertained.

Dead Snow

Ein! Zwei! Die!

When was the last time you watched a Norwegian horror movie? If you are a movie buff you might have heard of Cold Prey (Fritt vilt), but to be honest you will not usually find Norwegian movies at your local Tesco. Imagine my surprise when I spotted Dead Snow displayed in a prominent place in the DVD isle.

Tinyfish / DeeExpus @ The Peel.

F#@king Awesome.

It is perhaps not politically correct to be glad that someone broke their arm, but if it had not been for Jem Godfrey breaking his arm in a freak (read alcohol was involved) soft-ball accident, I would not have experienced the best gig I have been to in a long long time.

Cambridge Rock Festival - Tinyfish

Tinyfish @ Cambridge Rock Festival

As Tinyfish took to the CRS stage this sunny Saturday afternoon in August, I knew we were in for a treat. This progressive rock band from South London has built up a small school of dedicated followers since the release of their self entitled debut album in 2006.
